　セレニタがアレキサンドリアに来た時、犬の様な宇宙戦艦が落ちて来た。そして犬の頭をした男が宇宙戦艦から放り出された。セレニタはその犬の頭の男に駆け寄ると「おいスヌーピー! 大丈夫か」と言った。その時カエサルが「ここはエジプトだからアヌビスかも知れないぞ」と言った。すると犬の頭の男は「私はスヌーピーでもアヌビスでもない。カルブという者だ。私は大丈夫だ」と言った。そしてカルブは身の上話を始めた。「昔、私達はシリウスを回る惑星に住んでいた。その頃シリウスは赤みがかった星で、今より温度が低かった。ある時、大きなミサイルがシリウスに飛び込んで、シリウスは白い熱い星になって、シリウス星系は熱くなった。今やそこには住めないんだ。以来私達は宇宙を彷徨っている。私達がエバニダ星系に来た時、そこの住民がそのミサイルを撃った事を知った。それ以来、我々はエバニダ人と戦っているんだ」と。カルブが話終えるとカエサルは「エバニダという星は、アルマゲストに、獅子の尻の二星の北星と書かれている。明るさは五等で正式名はステラ・エバニダ・プトレマエイだ。現在その星は見えなくなっている」と言った。

After that we are fighting with them.” And Cæsar said to El Selenita, “Evanida is written that The northern one of the two in the buttocks, in Almagest. It was a fifth-magnitude star in the Lion. And its regular name is STELLA EVANIDA PTOLEMÆI. But it has vanished already.”
　カルブとはアラビア語で「犬」という意味です。名前の由来はケフェウス座のロー星、アル・カルブ・アル・ライ(羊飼いの犬)です。エバニダはラテン語で「消えた」という意味です。ステラ・エバニダ・プトレマエイとはラテン語で「プトレマイオスの消えた星」という意味です。しし座デルタ星のゾスマから南西に2度38分、しし座テータ星のコクサから北西に2度54分の位置にあった星ですが、現在、この位置に星は無いです。天王星と小惑星ヴェスタは、明るい時で五等になりますが、プラネタリウムソフトで動かしてみたら、どちらもエバニダほど北には来ませんでした。古い時代の本には、「シリウスは赤い」と書いてあります。
