　ある日、セレニタは車に轢かれた消火栓を見た。カエサルは「犬が怪我をしている。可愛がってやれ」と言ったが、セレニタは「犬は嫌いだ!」と言って通り過ぎた。しばらくしてから辺りを見回したが、周りには誰もいなかった。猫を一匹見つけて「わははは猫がガムで遊んでるぞ」と言ってから引き返した。そして「もう死んじゃってればいいんだが」と不平を言うと、「ま、ぼくのおじいちゃんは牧師だったから、ぼくがてめえの葬式をしてやってもいいんだぜ」と言って消火栓を起こした。すると消火栓は動き始めた。そしてセレニタは思わず「まだ生きてるぞ!」と歓声をあげた。消火栓は彼の周りを跳ね回り始めた。それから彼は歩き始めた。すると消火栓が後について来た。セレニタは「ついて来るな!」と叫んで棒を取って振り上げると消火栓を追い払って走り始めた。彼は走り終ると歩き始めた。しばらくしてからまた消火栓がついて来て彼の回りで跳ね回り始めた。カエサルは「お前に懐いてるな」と言った。セレニタは「犬は嫌いだよ」と言って溜息をついた。しばらくしてから、セレニタとカエサルは食事をとった。セレニタがサンドイッチからハムを抜いて落とすと消火栓がハムに飛びついて食べ、セレニタは大笑いした。それから消火栓が突然走り始めた。その先に一人の少女がいた。カエサルは「彼女が飼い主らしい」と言った。
　One day, El Selenita saw a fireplug that had been hit by a car. Then Cæsar said, “A dog is injured. Love injured dogs.” But El Selenita said, “I dislike dogs!” , and went past. But he looked around presently. Then nobody existed. And he found a cat , and said, “A cat is playing with gum. Ha ha ha.” , and turned back. And he grumbled, “The dog had died far better than it is alive!” , and abused, “My grandfather was a clergyman. I may hold a funeral for you if you like.” , and did set up the fireplug. And the fireplug started moving. And El Selenita shouted for joy, “It's still living!” And the fireplug started to jump about him. And he started to walk. Then the fireplug followed him. Then El Selenita cried, “Don't follow me!” , and took a stick, and drove the fireplug away, and started to run. And he ended to run and started to walk. After a while, the fireplug came and started to jump about him again. Then Cæsar said, “He is attached to you.” And El Selenita grumbled, “I don't like dogs.” , and sighed. After a while, they ate. Then El Selenita pulled out hams from sandwiches, and dropped. And the fireplug flew at the hams, and ate. And El Selenita roared with laughter. Then the fireplug started to run suddenly. Then a girl existed on the destination. Then Cæsar said, “It seems that she is the keeper.”
