1 序章 the prologue

　始めに神樣は、天地を創造された。神樣は、世界を完成された後、最後に人をお作りになられた。神樣は言われた。
　　「産めよ。増えよ。大地に満ちよ。」
　人は多くの子を産み、子は多くの孫を産み、孫は多くの曾孫を産み、そして曾孫も多くの子孫を残した。
　人は大地に溢れた。大神ゼウスが雲の上で、地上を見ていた。その時、銀行員が札束をポケットに入れて外に出た。するとゼウスは「やつは今銀行の金を着服した。他のやつは気付いてないが、わしは見たぞ」と言った。そして雷を取り出して投げようとした。その時近くにあった野球場で、マーク・マグワイアがホームランを打った。そこでゼウスは雷を仕舞うと命じた。
　　「風よ吹け。ボールをやつにぶつけてやれ。」
　すると風が吹き、ホームランはその銀行員の頭に当たった。そしてその銀行員は気を失って倒れた。そしてゼウスは尻をまくって勝ち誇った。彼はコアラの柄のパンツをはいていた。そして再び地上を監視し始めた。その時、銀行強盗が、銀行から逃げ出した。そこでゼウスは雷を取り出して、投げようとした。その時二人の警察官が現われて彼を捕まえ、手錠をかけた。するとゼウスは雷を仕舞うと「裁かれるがいい」と言った。銀行強盗が「私の妻が病気なので、医者に診てもらいたかったんだ」と言った。するとゼウスは驚いて涙を流すと、雷を取り出して投げた。その時稲妻が、手錠を打ち砕いた。警察官は互いに顔を見合わせ、同時に強盗は逃げ出した。そして警察官はピストルを取り出すと、強盗を追い始めた。その時近くの野球場で、サミー・ソーサがホームランを打った。そこでゼウスは命じた。
　　「風よ吹け。警官のピストルを叩き落とせ。」
　すると風が吹き、ボールは警察官達の腕に当たり、彼等のピストルが落ちた。そして彼等がピストル を拾った時、強盗は逃げてしまっていた。そしてゼウスは振り向くと「アポロンよ! 汝の子のアスクレピオスを強盗の下へ遣わせろ! 神は全ての人々を幸せにしなければならぬのだ!」と言った。

In the beginning, the LORD God created the Heaven and the Earth. The LORD God completed the World, and created Human lastly. The LORD God said, “Bear. Increase. Be filled to the Ground.” And the Human bore many children. And the Children bore many grandchildren. And the Grandchildren bore many great-grandchildren. And they had many descendants too. Humen had filled onto the Ground. Zeus was looking the Ground, on a cloud. Then a bank clerk did put a roll of notes into his pocket, and went out. Then Zeus said, “He getteth emblezzed. Other men haven't noticed. But I get looked it!” And he took a lightning, and tried to throw. Then Mark MacGwire did hit a home run at the near ballpark. And Zeus did put the lightning, and commanded, “Winds! Blow! Let the ball hit him!” And a wind blew. And the ball got been carried, and did hit the bank clerk's head. And the bank clerk fainted. And Zeus took a defiant attitude triumphantly. He wears briefs their pattern was a koala. And he started to look the ground again. Then a bank robber ran away from a bank. And Zeus took a lightning, and tried to throw. Then two police officers appeared and caught him, and did put handcuffs on his wrists. And Zeus did put the lightning, and said, “Be judged!” And the bank robber talked, “My wife is sick, therefore I wish to make her see a doctor.” Then Zeus got been surprised and shed tears, and took a lightning, and threw. Then a thunderbolt struck the handcuffs which the police officers had put on the bank robber's wrists. And the handcuffs got been broken. And the two police officers looked at each other. And the bank robber escaped in a fluster. And the police officers took out their own pistols, and ran after the bank robber. Then Sammy Sosa did hit a home run at the near ballpark. And Zeus commanded, “Winds! Blow! Let the ball hit their hands!” And a wind blew and carried the ball. And the ball got been carried and did hit their hands. And the pistols fell. And they picked up their own pistols again when, the bank robber had made good his escape. And Zeus turned back, and commanded, “Apollo! Send thy son Asclepius to him! Gods must make all humen be happy!”
　1981年秋ごろにイノゴ8世という漫画を描き始めました。ぼくの作品の中では初めてストーリーを持った作品です。1984年に中学に入りましたが、学校の先生が「英語は50カ国で話されている」と言ったので、読める人の数を増やすためにイノゴ8世を英訳し始めましたが、難しいのですぐにやめてしまいました。
　1995年春に引っ越しましたが、その時イノゴ8世はページがバラバラになった状態で再発見されました。
　1996年春にアーティミドアという作品を描き終わりました。それ以来、イノゴ8世の復元を一段落英語でやるのと、マトゥサラの原案を一段落英語で書くのを、交互にやっていました。

　1999年の末、イノゴ8世を英訳し終わりました。

　2001年の初め、マトゥサラの原案を書き終わりました。

　マトゥサラという作品は、イノゴ8世の英訳復元をしている間に、自然に発生した新しい作品です。共に主人公は聖書中の人物メトセラがモデルであり、モデルとなったメトセラについて調べているうちに思いつきました。マトゥサラはメトセラのギリシャ語形で、実際には男性ですけど語尾が-aなので女の名前に見えます。イノゴ8世はあくまで原作に忠実に復元し、マトゥサラは新作というか、現代版イノゴ8世として作りました。

　作品中での天体現象は、手書き版ではPC-9801で初代ステラナビゲーターを使いましたが、html化する時にWindows Meでステラナビゲーターver7を使って計算し直しています。それで、手書き版とhtml版では、日付と星の位置に、一部にずれがあります。
