短編

　シケムの事件の後、デナは来る日も来る日も部屋にこもっていた。ある日、彼女は商店街に行った。そしてデナは、外国人達が建てた店に入った。そして彼女はその店で、美しい顔立ちの店員に出会った。それ以来、デナはしばしばその店に行った。ある日、彼女は店員の一人が「明日ここを発とう」と言っているのを聞いた。

　その夜、デナは窓から跳び降りると商店街に行って、彼らの荷車に乗り込むと、荷物の中に隠れた。そしてその翌日、彼らはデナが荷車の中に入っている事を知らずに出発した。

　数年後、その店員と結婚していたデナは赤子を産んだ。彼女は言った。「私は彼と一緒なので幸せです。だけといつかは帰るでしょう。」

　そして赤子にハザルと名付けた。それはヘブライ語で「帰る」という意味である。

　デナ物語は語られ終わった。ラヴ・ヒナは言う。「ハザル、即ち帰るというヘブライ語はヘートで始まるが、クザリ、即ちハザール人というヘブライ語はカーフで始まるから、それは正しくない。」

　するとラバン・ガマガエルは言う。「彼女は荷車の中で横になっていたので、ヘートとカーフを間違えたのだ。なお、彼女はイスラエル人がエジプトへ渡る前に、一人で帰って来ていた。」
Some time after Shechem, Dinah was keeping to her room all day long. One day, she went to a shopping street. Then foreigners had built a shop. And Dinah came into there. And she met a handsome salesclerk. Since then, Dinah went to often the shop. One day, she heard that one salesclerk says, “Let's leave here tomorrow.”

At that night, Dinah jumped off from the window, and went to the shopping street, and got into their wagon, and hid herself among freights. At the next day, they started without knowing that she had hidden herself in the wagon.

After some years, Dinah had married with the handsome salesclerk, bore a baby. She said, “I've gotten married to him, therefore I am happy. But I'll get back at some future time.” And she named the baby Chazarthat was the Hebrew for
‘get back.’

The story of Dinah has ended to be told. Rav Hina says, “The first letter of the Hebrew that is Chazar for ‘get back’ is Heth . But the first letter of the Hebrew that is Kuzari for ‘Chazarite’ is Kaph . That is why, it isn't trust.” And Rabban Gamagael says, “She was laying herself, in the wagon, therefore she mistook Heth and Kaph.
And she had come back alone, before Israelites went to Egypt.”

　これは、2001年に「ユダヤ人とは誰か」という本を読んだ時に、冗談で書いてみた話です。ハザール国が、カーフで始まる事を知った時に、第四章を書き足しました。そして更に、創世記第四十一章十五節を読んだ時に最後の一行を書き足しました。
